Cosmetics is a study about the means and methods of improving a person’s appearance.

The main task of modern practical cosmetics is the artificial imparting of freshness and beauty to the face and body of a person, which is achieved by a number of preventive measures, as well as appropriate care and treatment of skin imperfections. The successful solution of this problem is due to the level of knowledge about the structure and functions of the skin, the causes of cosmetic defects, as well as the ability to correctly choose and use cosmetic preparations. This knowledge is important to consumers. cosmetic preparations, as well as for their manufacturers and distributors.

The production of cosmetic preparations for the treatment of the skin of the face and hair (seborrhea, acne, baldness, skin pigmentation), benign formations (birthmarks, warts, papillomas, etc.), freckles, wrinkles until the middle of the 20th century were studied in the general course of medicine technology, and now The time is studied in the course of medical cosmetics. Since pharmacy and cosmetics have common roots, consider some methodological approaches to the development, production and use of cosmetic products.

When creating cosmetic compositions and their production, it is first of all necessary to consider the purpose of their purpose (hygienic, curative, preventive, decorative). The prescribed therapeutic cosmetic products are divided into the means for the care of the skin of the face, head and body (creams, ointments, lotions, soaps), the means for the care of teeth (toothpastes, powders), the oral cavity (liquid for rinsing), for the care of nails, as well as means that inhibit sweat (refreshing lotions, deodorants, powders).

Cosmetic preparations for skin treatment and care are used in practice, taking into account the structure and condition of the skin (oily, dry, normal) and the purpose of the remedy (cleaning, softening, nutrition, protection, correction). Given these indicators, the compositions of cosmetic products can vary significantly. In addition, various biologically active substances (vitamins, amino acid hormones, extractive components from herbs that stimulate metabolic processes in skin cells) and other additives (disinfectants, deodorizing substances) can be added to their basic composition.

The main nomenclature of modern cosmetic products is intended for skin care. Their compositions cleanse, moisturize, nourish, restore and protect the skin.

However, in order to properly and effectively perform the procedures and use cosmetic preparations for skin care and treatment of its defects, it is necessary to know the structure, properties and functions of the skin.

The skin is the largest organ of our body. Its mass (with a body weight of 60 kg) is 18–20 kg, its area is 1.5–2 m2, its thickness is up to 4 mm; the thickness of the subcutaneous tissue can reach 10 cm.

On the one hand, the vital activity of the skin is inextricably linked with the vital activity of the whole organism. This relationship is confirmed by the dependence of the appearance of the skin on the state internal organs  and body systems in general. For example, the yellow color of the skin indicates liver disease; bronze tint - on the pathology of the adrenal glands; diseases of the organs of internal secretion are often accompanied by the appearance of spots on the skin; such infectious diseasesas measles, scarlet fever accompanied skin rash; urticaria and furunculosis may be the result of metabolic disorders, etc. On the other hand, skin diseases affect the general condition of a person, for example, they can worsen sleep, appetite, mood.

The skin has a complex structure and performs a number of important vital functions: it protects the body from various external influences, protects against mechanical damage, regulates body temperature, takes part in the process of breathing, produces sweat and sebum, protects against infections. In addition, the skin is actively involved in the overall metabolism of the body - water, salt, protein, carbohydrate and fat. Through human sweat glands

per day is allocated from 0.4 to 1 l of sweat (with physical exertion  and in hot weather - up to 10 liters), and through the sebaceous glands - up to 20 g of sebum. Therefore, health care is closely related to skin care.

The skin consists of the actual skin or dermis, whose thickness is about 2 mm and the outer layer of the skin - the epidermis, the thickness of the five layers of which is only 0.1-0.2 mm (Fig. 20.1). The unique function of the epidermis is that it, by forming the outer skin, protects the body from the harmful effects of the environment (injuries, dust, various substances, bacteria, wind, sharp temperature fluctuations, ultraviolet rays and other irritating factors).

Closest to the dermis is the basal layer of the epidermis. It is formed by a single cell layer, the cells of which energetically divide and are constantly advancing for three weeks towards the surface of the epidermis. During this time, changes occur in the cell, aimed at deviating from normal cellular activity. As it moves into prickly, granular and other layers, it flattens; protein substances, polypeptides and amino acids under the action of various enzymes are converted to keratin; gradual keratinization or keratinization begins. When a cell reaches the brilliant and horny layers, it dies.

With human age, the cells of the basal layer gradually lose their ability to divide, with the result that fewer and fewer new cells form in the epidermis. They decrease in size and the thickness of the epidermis decreases. This process is noticeable in women after the age of 40 years. Therefore, in order to “rejuvenate” aged thin skin, cell division of the basal layer should be activated. In other words, it is necessary to activate the production of new large cells by the basal layer, which will provide a qualitative improvement of the epidermis and its revitalization.

The aging process of the cells of the epidermal layer of the skin is that the cells of the spinous layer (the thickest layer of the epidermis) constantly move from the basal to the granular layer and undergo a change as they move: the cell nucleus decreases, which is a sign of a weakening of the cell's activity. The granular layer already contains both live and dead cells, while a very thin shiny layer contains only dead cells with a lot of keratin.

The stratum corneum contains flattened cells consisting of keratin (50%) and other proteins that are solid and insoluble in water, giving the skin a strong protective surface. However, there are other living cell residues between the cell walls: lipids (2–20%), amino acids, sugars, and other water-soluble substances (20–40%). These substances and create the conditions for the penetration of certain substances through the epidermis, which is used in dermatology and cosmetology in the appointment of medicinal and cosmetic preparations, and in balneology - in the appointment of mineral baths and mud. In addition, the horny and shiny layers contain about 15% water.

Obsolete cells are removed from the surface of the stratum corneum by desquamation, and along with them - microbes, contaminants, dust, and the thickness of the protective layer is maintained at the same time.

The dense part of the stratum corneum together with the brilliant form a powerful obstacle for the passage through the skin of liquids and substances soluble in them (the skin passes small molecules in a small amount). There is no such “barrier” in the thin skin around the eyes.

The dermis consists of relatively loosely arranged cells, collagen and elastic fibers that form a dense, fibrous connective tissue, as well as from a structureless cementing main intercellular substance. In the dermis there are a large number of capillaries, nerves, hair follicles, sebaceous and sweat glands. They all affect the properties and processes occurring in the dermis.

Fibers connective tissue  dermis have different properties. Elastic fibers can stretch and re-contract to their original size. They consist of two types of molecules - mucopolysaccharides and elastin protein. Collagen fibers contain mainly protein collagen and mucopolysaccharides. They can not stretch, but can change their shape and as the skin ages loses its flexibility.

The fibers of the dermis form a dense mesh, which provides the skin with strength and elasticity.

The most important part of the dermis in quantitative terms is the extracellular substance, which is a colloidal solution (gel) of various mucopolysaccharides and mucoproteins. The main mucopolysaccharide of the skin is hyaluronic acid, which, binding to water, forms the connective tissue of the dermis between the fibers thick gel, which is an important protective mechanism that prevents the body from the spread in it of pathogens that can penetrate through the epidermis.

There are also enzymes in the skin (one of them is hyaluronidase) that can break down large molecules of the main intercellular substance (hyaluronic acid), causing a thinning of the gel layer (for example, during inflammation or burning of the skin), which creates conditions for the penetration of microorganisms, fungi and harmful chemicals through the skin. Many microorganisms produce the enzyme hyaluronidase themselves and penetrate through the skin with its help. The property of hyaluronidase to reduce the size of hyaluronic acid macromolecules is used in medicine and cosmetics as a factor stimulating the absorption of the necessary substances into the skin. However, this property of the enzyme in cosmetics must be used with great care, given that pathogens can penetrate the skin.

The concentration of hydrogen ions (pH) of the skin, mainly the stratum corneum, is due to the water-soluble substances in it (salts, amino acids, lactic and pyrrolidonecarboxylic acids and their sodium salts, urea, hydrocarbons, polypeptides), which form a buffer system that maintains a pH value of about 5 and protecting the skin from acids and alkalis.

The water balance in the skin cells (60-70%) and the main intercellular substance is regulated by osmotic pressure, where the main role is played by sodium and potassium ions. This fluid tension (turgor, or tone) provides the skin with the connective tissue fibers elasticity and elasticity.

Natural evaporation of water by the skin (excluding sweat excretion) is 100-200 ml during the day. Outside, the water almost does not penetrate the skin. When taking a bath in the skin of a person receives about 50 ml of water. It is retained by the stratum corneum and evaporates within 10 minutes.

Moisturizing the skin can occur due to insoluble keratin and other water-soluble substances (20%) and lipids (20%) that are present in the epidermis and are able to swell. Combined with water, these substances increase the flexibility of the stratum corneum, giving softness to the skin. Pyrrolidonecarboxylic acid, carbamide, lactic acid, sugar, whose ability to bind water depends on the humidity of the environment, should be distinguished from the low-molecular substances of the stratum corneum.

Frequent skin treatment with water, solutions detergents, solvents, excessive burning (with UV irradiation) leads to skin loss of water and fat soluble substances. Reducing them in the stratum corneum to 10% and below leads to the appearance of signs characteristic of dry skin: a feeling of dry skin, a rough surface, and the appearance of microcracks. The most obvious signs of dry skin are the detachment from the skin of not single horn cells or their small groups, but whole plates or lumps.

Very little is known about the causes of dry skin, although the problem has been studied for a long time. It is known that dry skin can be a hereditary property and as the human body ages, the skin becomes more and more dry, especially in people who have reached the age of 80. The use of moisturizers solves the problem temporarily, since unpleasant feeling  dry skin is restored.

Aging of the skin, despite its relevance, is not yet fully understood. But, without a doubt, changes in the tissues with age (starting from about 25 years old) and, above all, with a change in the hormonal balance, contribute to the aging of tissues. Sex hormones affect the secondary signs and sexual activity of a person; have a strong effect on the metabolism in the cells of the tissue, on the protein, calcium, carbohydrate and water-salt balance in the body. Insufficient influence of sex hormones negatively affects cell activity skin cover. This explains the frequent introduction of sex hormones in the compositions of therapeutic cosmetic preparations.

The following are possible age changes  in human skin:

0 the walls of blood capillaries become harder, the blood circulation and metabolism through blood vessels are weakened;

And the composition of the main inter-agent substance of the dermis changes, its protective ability decreases;

The nutrition of the epidermis cells is weakened, the division slows down and their size decreases; while the epidermis becomes thinner;

And the elasticity of the fibers of the connective tissue of the dermis and the elasticity of the skin are reduced, the ability to retain moisture is lost, wrinkles appear;

And in the secretion of the skin glands, quantitative and chemical changes occur.

Aging of the skin is promoted by a reduction in the activity of the natural moisturizing system, which resists excessive drying of the skin and insufficient secretion of fat. The skin becomes dry, flaky, ugly. This skin reacts faster to negative external and internal effects, which leads to premature wrinkles. The reason for this may be living and working conditions, lack of vitamins, the pathological condition of various organs and body systems, most often gastrointestinal diseases and endocrine glands. Premature fading of the skin contribute to nervous stress, physical and mental overload, lack of sleep, poor diet, adverse climatic factors, abuse of smoking and alcohol, as well as cosmetics.

Recommended for restoring and active care of mature skin. nourishing masks, lotions, creams and other cosmetics containing tonic substances, vitamins, biostimulants, tinctures and extracts medicinal plants  etc. BAS are known that dilate blood vessels and thus increase the ability of the blood to supply the necessary substances to the tissues. Of interest are anabolic steroids, biogenic stimulants, hormones, vitamins, enzymes and many other substances that can affect the functions and vital functions of the skin or carry out systematic care for it. Foreign pharmaceutical companies have developed programs for the use of “target” cosmetics based on the type and condition of the skin, for example, a hydrate collection, a regenerating collection of cosmetic preparations, etc .; developed bioactive liposome gels, bioactive anti-wrinkle creams and other formulations.

In recent years, worldwide there has been a decline in the use of synthetic substances for cosmetics and a gradual return to natural raw materials. Essential oils, extracts, and infusions of many plants (sometimes several at a time) are often introduced into cosmetic preparations, because they contain vitamins, biogenic stimulants, phytoncides, plant hormones and other BAS that have a strong physiological effect on the entire human body and, in particular, on the skin. : improve metabolism, have anti-inflammatory, tonic, astringent, disinfecting effect, prevent its premature aging.

The new generation of cosmetic products containing liposomes of biologically active substances, collagen and other gels that can “smooth out” wrinkles under the eyes, active bio and hydrate creams, etc. have appeared on the world drug market.

Cosmetics has become a very profitable industry and is developing rapidly. Cosmetics  produce more than 3000 companies, 25 of which control more than half of the products on the world market. Over the past five years, growth rates in the production and consumption of cosmetics in developed countries have increased significantly: in South America - by 56%, in France - by 48%, Germany - by 44%, Italy - by 43%, etc.

The most promising direction in cosmetics today is prophylactic skincare cosmetics, i.e. timely, skillful and systematic use of hygienic, nutritional-prophylactic and protective means capable of delaying and delaying the aging of the skin and its appendages, to prevent premature change of appearance.

Non-standard and very effective recipes  from the pharmacy ...

1. Retinoic ointment

The storehouse of vitamin A. Ointment is positioned as anti-acne, but is also an excellent prevention of aging, improves skin condition, removes redness.

I make a mask out of it, for 20-30 minutes, it can be longer. Someone leaves for the night. I heard that in the US, beauticians its counterpart (retisol) is prescribed as the only proven tool for combating wrinkles.

2. Badyaga

Of all the masks with the addition of hydrogen peroxide, the mask with badaga - the most famous.

Freshwater sponge named badyaga, in powder form is sold in almost every pharmacy. Many people believe that peeling using a badyagi is not much inferior in effect salon procedures. In principle, this is true, but there is one drawback - badyaga, with prolonged use causes hair growth. If you already have hair on your face, then masks with badagy will not suit you.

Agree, a slight drawback. And if you do not have contraindications, the badyaga can magically change your skin. The top layer of dead cells, after several masks, is almost completely removed. And in this layer, and eels, and comedones, and pimples are different. It is better to make such masks if you know that the next 12 hours will not go anywhere, since the face will be as red as an Indian.

In short, just dilute the powder with peroxide, and after a minute apply to wet skin. To make the redness sleep faster, you can then apply zinc ointment. After that within 3 - 4 days the skin can peel off, and as soon as everything is restored, you can make such a mask - peeling again. The course of masks is always better than one, only. But here you yourself, for the state of the skin, decide how much you need to make them.

3. Calendula tincture

Tincture of calendula is absolutely necessary in every first aid kit. It has been proven that it is more effective than iodine preparations for treating wounds and cuts, since calendula has the unique ability to accelerate tissue regeneration, reduce inflammation and cause wound healing.

If this tool helps to heal from boils and ulcers, then it will definitely relieve acne. I generally consider calendula tincture the best lotion. If you are afraid of alcohol, dilute it with water in a ratio of 1 to 1.

Still, calendula tincture dries your scalp coolly, and if you rub it periodically, your hair will become dirty less. To strengthen the hair, you can add to the tincture of calendula castor oil. It is necessary to rub during a month, and it not bad helps at seborrhea.

4. Levomekol

Domestic ointment "Levomekol", has a fairly strong anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial action, and is active against various microorganisms (staphylococcus, pseudomonas and intestinal sticks).

If you get hurt, burned, you have a boil, you scratched your face yourself or you feel that a pimple is starting to break through, this ointment can help you. Apply a thick layer on the sore spot until it passes. And passes after it, quickly enough.

5. Salicylic alcohol and salicylic ointment

A component of virtually all anti-acne and anti-seboric drugs, salicylic acid, dissolved in alcohol, is sold in every pharmacy. If you have blackheads, black spots, acne on the back, very oily skin, or keratolization problems - this is the remedy for you.

I recently read that a study was conducted in America on the topic of effective means  against acne and acne. Americans came to the conclusion that salicylic acid is the best known so far, and they consider it almost a panacea for all skin problems.

One of my friends fights black spots very effectively, applying salicylic ointment every night after wiping with hydrogen peroxide. Salicylic ointment is milder than alcohol, and well peels dead skin cells.

I warn you - salicylic alcohol is very dry skin, so apply it to a point. By the way, salicyl is dissolved only in alcohol, so it is not clear where it comes from in alcohol-free lotions. And still salicylic acid prevents the appearance of corns and hardening of the skin, so after a pedicure, apply it on the heels and other problem areas.

6. Zinc ointment

Zinc ointment is an anti-inflammatory agent that has a drying, adsorbing, astringent and antiseptic effect. After cleansing the face, including self-made, with acne and any inflammation, apply zinc ointment to the skin.

Again, if the pimple starts, spread it on the place for the night and most likely there won't be a trace from it in the morning. No wonder zinc is part of the widely advertised products for problem skin. Only they are expensive, and the ointment - a penny.

Next, so that you do not have irritation after depilation in the bikini area, apply zinc ointment for several hours. Usually one application is enough to forget about this trouble before the next procedure.

You did a pedicure - at home or in the salon, and you want to keep the effect longer? Just periodically apply zinc ointment on the feet and heels. Verified

7. Apilak (produced in the form of ointment, candles, Bud)

“Apilak” is the trade name of the preparation based on royal jelly, patented by one Tallinn pharmaceutical plant. Produced since Soviet times and this tool has helped more than one generation of people. “Apilak” is a fortifying agent, adaptogen, a biogenic stimulator of metabolic processes, and also a source of amino acids, heaps of vitamins and macronutrients.

The spectrum of diseases for which it is prescribed is enormous. Often, “Apilak” is prescribed to children in the absence of appetite, to people in the recovery period after operations and stresses, as an additional tool in the treatment of infertility. Ointment in combination with Bad enters the course of treatment of seborrhea and neurodermatitis, and after a month of use reduces the oiliness of the skin, reduces the number of inflammatory elements, reduces itching.

When oily, problem skin  face, it is useful at least once a week to apply "Apilak" on the skin with a thick layer. If you have chronic fatigue syndrome, large physical or mental stress, or just want to cheer up, “Apilac” is one of the safest ways to do it. Sold in every pharmacy, is cheap.

8. Hypericum oil, chamomile, nettle, burr oil, Castor oil

All these oils are far from deficient, affordable and nourish and restore hair very well. I advise you to buy everything and in turn do hot wraps with them. Usually the oil is packaged in small glass bottles, I just put them in a glass with boiling water, and after a minute I apply the heated oil on my hair. Do this twice a week.

9. British salt (on the other hand, magnesium sulfate or magnesia)

The drug is known to all hypertensive patients and people with liver disease. As far as I know, in an ambulance, magnesia in ampoules is used to quickly lower the pressure. But for our purposes with you - gaining well-groomed and health - we will need magnesia in powder. It is packaged in packages of 100 grams, and costs somewhere around 10 - 12 rubles.

If you need urgently, literally in 1 day to lose weight, then a bath with the addition of 1 kg of magnesia will help you. The effect is based on the removal of excess water from the body. The bath is also useful for people suffering from edema, it is good for the kidneys to cope with the load.

Patient psoriasis such a bath is also very easy life, as well as cleans the skin. A bath with English salt will also be useful for people with problem skin on the body, acne on the back and chest and just wanting to cleanse the body. Just do not abuse, a bath with magnesia can be applied a maximum - once a month, this is a very powerful tool.

10. Cosmetic clay

About clay (white, green, blue, etc.) like and so we all know. And that clay masks, baths and wraps really work, I think, too. Be sure to buy a couple of packages if you have not tried it yet. White clay is better suited for dry skin and hair, green, for problem skin, and greasy hair, blue, in principle, fits all.

Of course, simple cosmetic clay is not as effective as, for example, Moroccan, or the one that is sold in Indian stores. But then the price is different.

11. Pasta "Sulsena"

Also known to our parents, hair care product “Sulsena” paste is an emulsion based on selenium disulfide. This disulfide is a seboregulator, and has anti-dandruff effect.

Paste "Sulsena" will help you if you have dandruff, dull splitting hair, as well as if they quickly become fat, split or fall out. Sulfur, which is a part of the paste, strengthens and seals the hair from the inside, so that after application they appear thicker.

It helps a lot if you want to increase the gap between washing the head. Personally, I can confirm - the hair stays fresh longer and shines amazingly.

12. Romazulan

Romazulan is an antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory drug consisting of chamomile and essential oil  chamomile (live azulene). Anyone who, like me, is a fan of chamomile smell - I think he will be delighted with this drug.

The beauty of Romazulan is that it can be added everywhere: in baths, in shampoo, in homemade soap, in shower gel, masks. It can be used as a lotion for oily, problem skin, and in general for any skin inflammation, for gum disease, and even as a deodorant.

Just imagine that when literally one gram of azulene is added to cosmetics, it already has therapeutic effect, and then how much of it in 100 ml. packaging. I think that Romazulan should be with every woman who cares about her beauty.

13. Cubes with herbs!

Chamomile + string + jojoba oil + olive oil! And all in the freezer! In the morning, wipe the face with a cube! It becomes fresh, ruddy and soft! And in general, during the day, if the face is tired, it is worth wiping, and the tiredness of the face disappears!

14. Aevit

From wrinkles super funds. Apply to the skin around the eyes. Capsules cost 34 rubles. This is vitamin A and "E" together, put it in the morning and evening under the eyes. Or you can smear it only once a day, keep it for 2 hours, then it is absorbed, or blot it with a napkin. If at home, you can walk all day! Good effect. Use 2 weeks, then break.

15. Blefarogel number 1 (price about 150 r)

  - there is a hyaluronic acid. From the "bags" under the eyes. Apply a thick layer 3 times a day and be sure to be oily at night, after a few days the swelling should go off and wrinkles should run away. You can also try castor oil. In the morning for 2 hours to apply after the gel (lifting effect). You can go even further and purchase pure hyaluronic acid in ampoules (on the website or in a company where cosmetologists work) and pour the ampoule into a bottle of blepharogel. Shake and apply well before each application.

16. Solution calcium chloride

Peeling - Hollywood Cleaning: Clean dry face Calcium chloride solution is applied (35 rub), they wait until they dry, then the second layer is applied, and again they wait for drying. Soap their hands with baby soap and massage the skin, rolling the coils. The mechanism here is as follows: calcium chloride interacts with soap (sodium and potassium salt of higher carboxylic acids), potassium or sodium chloride is formed and insoluble calcium salt of higher carboxylic acids, which rolls, incidentally capturing part of the top layer of keratin scales. It turns out surface gentle peeling.
The use of calcium chloride to cleanse the skin is possible in the absence of inflammatory elements. Very effective. Checked !!!

17. For 24 rubles Heparin ointment (from edema ... if in the morning there are scary bags under the eyes)

18. Hydrogen peroxide

Everyone knows a disinfectant and deodorizing agent, absolutely harmless and you can find it in every home. We clean her ears and apply to the cuts to stop the blood, but it turns out that it can be useful for our appearance too.

If you like to pick pimples on your face, or you squeeze black dots yourself, then before that, do not forget to thoroughly wet your skin with hydrogen peroxide. It loosens the stratum corneum well, and they will very easily come to the surface when pressed along with the entire stem.

After removing this scum from the skin, wipe these areas again - this way you will close and disinfect the pores, and the next day there will be no traces on the face.

Have you suddenly run out of deodorant? - wipe your armpits with hydrogen peroxide, sweating it certainly will not reduce, but here the smell for a long time just will not. By the way, if you want to extend the effect of your deodorant for a couple of hours, for example, if you have a long way to go, and in order to surely stay fresh, this advice will also help. Only apply deodorant on the dried skin.

And if you have no makeup on hand, peroxide will help you out. Hydrogen peroxide can replace lotion and tonic, because perfectly cleans, constricts and whitens pores. Suitable for any skin, and for oily skin - just perfect, because reduces sebum secretion, and can be used daily.
