Anthelmintic drugs for a wide range. Folk remedies for worms in adults and children.

For reference!  Almost all of these drugs are highly toxic, so self-medication through their extremely dangerous to health.

Broad-spectrum drugs

In the event that the patient has mixed forms helminthic infestations, and also in other circumstances, the doctor may prescribe universal anthelmintics, that is, drugs a wide range  exposure.

For example:

  1. Combantrine  - the active components of such a drug are resistant to trichocephalosis, hookworm, necatorosis and enterobiasis. Treatment is usually carried out for adult patients according to the doctor’s prescribed schedule.
  2. Medamine or Carbendazim  - with the help of such a universal anthelmintic it is possible to cure hookworm infection, ascariasis, necatorosis, enterobiasis and trichocephalosis. There are contraindications to the drug that cannot be ignored.
  3. Mebex, aka Wormin and Vermox  - the most universal anthelmintics that act detrimental to worms with trichocephalosis, ascariasis, mixed invasions, echinococcosis, trichinosis and enterobiosis.
  4. Niclozamide, Cestocide, or Dermin - new drugs from dwarf and bull tapeworm, wide ribbondiphyllobothriasis and hymenolepidosis. If previously tapeworms were treated with unconventional means, now pharmaceutical companies produce these drugs.

Only a doctor can take pills and choose the best anthelmintics, and only after a comprehensive diagnosis of the patient. Only by determining the type of helminthiasis and its degree of development, you can find the right medicine and the right dose.

Anthelmintic preparations for children

When choosing a drug for worms for children, it is important to consider the recommendations of the doctor. Typically, a specialist pays attention to the diagnosis data, clinical picture, age and weight category, after which he prescribes the scheme and dosage in treatment.

The best drugs for prevention

You can also prevent the appearance of worms in the body using means traditional medicinesuch as decoctions and infusions of bitterness herbs, onions and garlic, pumpkin seeds, wormwood powder, spices and spices and much more. Before home treatment with such drugs, you need to consult your doctor.

It is not difficult to guess that a child is infected with worms. Signs of damage to the children's body with helminths are skin rashesfrequent stool disorders, restless sleep, severe swelling of the legs and enlarged lymph nodes. The kid may complain about persistent itching  at anusperiodic stomach achefatigue, bitterness in the mouth.

In infants with worms, a low temperature without symptoms of a cold, yellowness of the mucous membranes and skin, enuresis is observed. If you noted at least two signs indicating the presence of helminths in the body of your baby, then you will need to visit a children's clinic to take blood tests, feces for worm eggs and scrapings for enterobiosis.

Babies from 6 months to a year are prescribed anthelmintic drugs Piranteol, Nemocide, Helminthox Combantrin. The first medication is considered one of the best from worms for use in the children's age category. It acts on helminths with enterobiasis, ascariasis, necatorosis, hookworm. With pinworms and roundworms, one dose of the drug and its repeated use after 2-3 weeks is enough. During this time, it is necessary to strictly observe personal hygiene, ironing.

New generation anthelmintic drugs for children

Anthelmintic preparations for children on herbs

Modern anthelmintic phytopreparations are made only on a plant basis. They contain highly concentrated plant extracts, and therefore their effect is quite strong, although somewhat weaker than that of chemical analogues. Anthelmintic drugs for children on a plant basis complex treatment: they kill worms, contribute to the elimination of dead individuals and eliminate violations caused by worms. It is up to the pediatrician to decide whether such agents can be used for children or to prefer chemical analogues.

As for folk therapy, traditionally worms in children are expelled by decoctions of herbs and the use of seeds of some plants. These include the infusion of tansy flowers, wormwood herbs, odorous, St. John's wort, wormwood seeds.

Pumpkin seeds loved by many children and adults have some anthelmintic effects. But their effect is much weaker than that of pharmaceuticals. Therefore, one cannot trust the expulsion of worms only to folk remedies.

Good effective anthelmintic drugs for the whole family

If worms are detected in a child, treatment should be done to all family members. To do this, you can use the same drugs as for children, only in a dosage intended for an adult. Good and effective anthelmintic drugs for the whole family are Piperazin, Pirantel, Nemocide, Helmintox, Combantrin, Vormin. However, they can be used only with the permission of the attending physician.

Do not forget that the treatment of worms is not only taking special medications, but also a number of hygiene measures. During therapy, bed and underwear should be rubbed and ironed well with a hot iron. All baby toys must be washed with soap and dried in the sun. The child should be washed regularly with warm water. In case of irritation of the anal area and genitals, lubricate the affected areas of the skin with oily baby oil cream.

Prevention of worms in children:

  • Encourage your child to wash his hands after the toilet, playing in the sandbox, talking with pets.
  • Wash vegetables, fruits, and berries thoroughly before giving them to children.
  • Never drink water of dubious quality. Try not to swallow water while swimming in open water.
  • Regularly arrange sunbathing for children's toys - worms are afraid of sunlight.
  • To reduce the likelihood of being infected with worms from pets, they are advised to have deworming every six months. The medicine and dose will tell the veterinarian.

Take care of your children and do not get sick!

All anthelmintic drugs that the pharmaceutical industry offers are divided into drugs with a wide or narrow spectrum of action. Synthetic forms have replaced the garlic and male fern extract and henopodia oil. The anthelmintic effect of the tablets is more effective in removing helminths, and when the conditions for taking the drug are met, complete cleaning is performed. Worm medicines for a person with a narrow spectrum of action include: anti-cestodose (-nematode, - trematode) drugs, and a wide one - anthelmintic.

Once, let's talk about anthelmintic.

Indeed, as you write, most first-timers are well aware of 3-4 medicines for worms and, most often, this is enough.

But I recall one case from my pharmacy life. Once a buyer came to us, called some exotic rubbish and asked him to pick up drug  from her.

We ourselves wondered if we had a tool that could deal with it.

We climbed into the drive, we were surprised that it turned out that there were not 3 anthelmintics, but a little more pain, we began to get instructions and read the complex Latin names for helminth infections in order to find this "exotic".

Of course, now we can say that this should be prescribed by a doctor, blah blah blah, but, you know how it happens ... :-)

I really want to help a person.

Our searches were successful, the drug was found! We felt like winners!

Below I will talk about him.

So today we’ll talk about those drugs that you are well aware of, and more precisely, those that are not at all heard. How do they work? What illegal immigrants do they act on? Which anthelmintic drugs are prescribed for crumbs, and which can be taken by pregnant women? And what should be said to the buyer when selling each product?

I took information about drugs from the website of the State Register of Medicines.

I will not touch on “dead souls”, which are no longer on the market: phenasal, medamine, niclosamide, chloxyl, etc.

And if you throw them all away, then anthelmintic drugs  will stay one, two and miscalculated.

Well, let's get started?

Levamisole (decaris)

It is available in two types: tablets of 150 mg, 1 piece per pack and 50 mg, 2 pieces per pack.

Remember:

Dekaris does not affect pinworms!

Look at the indications: ascariasis, necatorosis, hookworm. The last two are also round worms, are much less common than roundworms.

How does it work"?

Speaking Russian, it causes muscle paralysis in helminths, plus it violates the energy processes in the body of an illegal immigrant.

Well, if the energy is at zero and the muscles are relaxed, nothing prevents them from quietly expelling them from the intestines. Moreover, even laxatives are not needed. Everything happens naturally due to intestinal peristalsis.

Release Forms and Reception

150 mg tablets are indicated for adults. To cause paralysis of the parasite, just one tablet is enough.

50 mg tablets are prescribed for children from 3 years old and up to 14.

Why is there 2 tablets in a pack? Because, depending on age, ½ to 2 tablets are recommended once.

For reliability, you can repeat the reception after 7-14 days.

What can be adverse reactions?

When taking it, headache, dizziness, cramps, palpitations, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain are possible.

Who is contraindicated in?

Nursing women, children under 3 years. Pregnant only for strict indications.

What to say when selling?

  • Take decaris after meals.
  • Do not drink alcohol during the day after administration.
  • After 1-2 weeks, repeat the course.

Mebendazole (VERMOX, VORMIN)

What helminths affects?

The action of this anthelmintic agent extends to a much larger list of helminths than DECARIS. But best of all it acts on pinworms and whipworm.

Indications: enterobiosis, ascariasis, capillariosis, strongyloidosis, trichinosis, hookworm infection, teniosis, echinococcosis, alveococcosis, trichocephalosis, gnostostomiasis.

How does it work?

I didn’t tell you that helminths are sweet tooth? They love the glucose that the host consumes. By the way, this can explain the frequent feeling of hunger with helminthiases.

In addition, they need glucose like air, because it is involved in the synthesis of ATP, the main source of energy for the life of most living things.

Vermox violates the absorption of glucose by worms, which means that ATP synthesis is also disturbed. Forces leave illegal immigrants.

It is practically not absorbed in the intestine, that is, it works directly from the den of the enemy.

Reception mode

The dose and mode of administration depends on the age and type of "beast". For example, with enterobiosis, a child of 10 years old needs 1 tablet to deal with illegal immigrants. But it is better to repeat the course in 2-4 weeks.

And with ascariasis, it will just take 6 tablets (a whole package) to destroy the dependent, since in this case you need to take 1 tablet 2 times a day for 3 days.

Other worms require a different tactic ...

When taking it, there may be abdominal pain, nausea, dizziness.

Who is contraindicated in?

Children under 2 years old, pregnant and lactating.

What to say when selling?

  • After 2-4 weeks, the course should be repeated.
  • During the day after taking alcohol can not be used.
  • Fatty foods enhance the absorption of the drug into the blood, so while being treated with vermox, try to avoid fatty.

Pyrantel (PIRANTEL, HELMINTOKS)

What helminths affects?

It acts on pinworms, roundworms, hookworms, whipworms.

In medical terms, it will sound like this: enterobiosis, ascariasis, hookworm infection, necatorosis, trichocephalosis.

How does it work?

It acts on young and adult illegal immigrants, but it spares the larvae, so a second intake is necessary.

It is absorbed very badly from the intestines.

Release Forms and Reception

This drug is good in that there is a form of suspension.

Suspension pyrantel can be taken from 6 months of age. Remember, the last time we said that enterobiosis is very contagious, and an older child may well infect a younger one?

Age-related dosages of the suspension are indicated in the instructions, so you do not need to count on a kilogram of weight. We just climb into the instructions and read.

The number of tablets depends on age and weight. For example, a child of 8 years will need 2 tablets per reception. Usually, with enterobiosis and ascariasis, a single dose is sufficient, but with combined helminthiases (sometimes this happens), you will have to repeat the dose one or two more times.

What adverse reactions can cause?

When it is taken, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, rash, drowsiness, or insomnia may occur.

Who is contraindicated in?

  • Nursing.
  • With caution - for pregnant women and people with liver failure.

What should I say when selling?

  1. Take PYRANTEL during or after meals, chewing tablets carefully and drinking a glass of water.
  2. Car enthusiasts: It can cause drowsiness, so it’s better not to drive while taking this drug.
  3. After 3 weeks, it is advisable to repeat the course.

Piperazine adipate (piperazine)

Good old, though forgotten, anthelmintic.

Who does it affect?

On roundworms and pinworms (ascariasis, enterobiasis).

How does it work?

Causes muscle paralysis of helminths.

The first time it neutralizes 90-95% of enemy subjects. From the second time - 100%.

It is rapidly absorbed into the blood, excreted mainly by the kidneys. From here the side ones are clear, about which a little lower.

But in general, it is a low-toxic drug.

Release Forms and Reception

Previously, there were tablets of 0.2 and 0.5 g. Now I see on the Internet only 0.5.

Take piperazine 1 hour before a meal or 0.5-1 hour after it in age-related dosages. For example, adults need to take 3 tablets at once. And so 2 times a day.

With ascariasis, the course is 2 consecutive days, with enterobiosis - 5 days. In the latter case, it is recommended to conduct another 1-2 courses, taking a week break between them.

What are the adverse reactions?

Abdominal pain, nausea, headache.

If renal function is impaired, then in this case there may be tremor, euphoria, hallucinations, impaired coordination of movements.

Who is contraindicated in?

  • Pregnant, lactating. Security is not installed. Although I read in other sources that this is the only drug approved for use by pregnant women. In general, with pregnant women, keep your eyes open, and if you take the responsibility to advise something, then recommend only not in the first trimester.
  • Persons with chronic renal failure and organic diseases of the central nervous system.

What to say when selling?

  1. Take it an hour before meals or 0.5-1 hour after.
  2. At night, do an enema (adults 4-5 glasses, children 1-2 glasses) for mechanical removal of worms.
  3. After a week, repeat the course (with enterobiosis).

Albendazole (NEMOSOL)

What helminths affects?

  • On roundworms: roundworms, pinworms, hookworms, whipworms, etc. (ascariasis, enterobiosis, hookworm infection, necatorosis, trichocephalosis).
  • For intestinal acne - a disease called strongyloidosis (still rubbish: many organs are affected, but more often bile ducts).
  • Pork tapeworm larvae (Neurocysticercosis).
  • Echinococcus (echinococcosis).
  • Giardia.
  • Toxocara is a causative agent of toxocariasis (frequent helminthiasis in dogs).

How does it work?

It is poorly absorbed from the intestines, but the intake of fatty foods by 5 times increases absorption in the blood, which means there will be more side effects.

Release Forms and Reception

NEMOSOL is in the form of chewable tablets, suspensions and film-coated tablets.

Take it with food or immediately after.

For adults - tablets in the shell. If a person cannot take them, then chewable tablets or suspension, and for children from 1 year old - suspension (strictly as prescribed by the doctor!)

The dose and course depend on the type of "beast" and the patient’s body weight.

Who is contraindicated in?

Pregnant women with retinal damage.

Caution: lactating, people with liver failure and hematopoiesis.

What are the adverse reactions?

There are a lot of them, and they are serious, so I would not advise you to take a sin in your soul and recommend this drug on your own.

See what could be:

  • Impaired liver function,
  • Leukopenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia,
  • Acute renal failure,
  • A / D boost,
  • Meningeal symptoms
  • Well, and the more harmless: abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, reversible alopecia, itchy skinrash.

It has a teratogenic effect. Therefore, during treatment, and even within a month after the end of it, reliable contraception is mandatory!

During treatment with NEMOSIS, it is necessary to take a blood test regularly, 1 time in 2 weeks.

What to say when selling?

  1. Woman: during treatment and another month after the end of treatment with this anthelmintic, you need to protect yourself from pregnancy.
  2. While you are being treated with this drug, refrain from fatty foods and grapefruits, as they increase the absorption of the drug into the blood and increase the likelihood of adverse reactions.
  3. Take it with meals or immediately after.
  4. Car enthusiasts: the drug can reduce the reaction, so during treatment they are not recommended to drive.

Praziquantel (BILTRICIDE)

This is exactly the drug that I spoke about at the beginning.

What helminths affects?

  • Schistosome worm infections (Schistosoma haematobium, Schistosoma mansoni, Schistosoma intercalatum, Schistosoma japonicum, Schistosoma mekongi). Their common name is schistosomiasis.
  • Infections caused by hepatic and pulmonary flukes (Clonorchis sinensis, Opistorchis viverrini, Paragonimus westermani). Surely you have heard such a name: opisthorchiasis, which happens when an infected poorly cooked fish is eaten.

Both of them have suction cups in order to gain a firm foothold on the host’s body, therefore they are called “flukes”.

How does it work?

The drug increases the permeability of helminth cells for calcium ions, this causes a reduction in the entire muscles of the dependent, which leads to paralysis and inglorious death.

Quickly and completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract into the blood.

Release Forms and Reception

Available in coated tablets, 6 tablets per pack.

Take the drug without chewing after eating. Treatment lasts only 1 or 2 days, depending on the type of helminth.

Tablets can be taken 1, 2 or 3 times a day. It also depends on the kind of "beast."

The instructions clearly spelled out single dosages by weight.

So if you have to release this drug, do not be lazy to count the number of tablets per course. Perhaps one package is not enough.

What are the adverse reactions?

There may be abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, headache, itching, fever.

Who is contraindicated in?

  • Patients with impaired liver function.
  • Pregnant (especially strictly contraindicated in the first trimester) and lactating. You cannot breast-feed during treatment with the drug and for another three days.
  • Children under 4 years old.

What to say when selling?

  • Take the pill without chewing after eating.
  • Motorists: during treatment with this drug, it is better not to drive.

Findings:

So what we have:

The following antihelminthic agents act on roundworms (roundworm, pinworms, moisture caps):

  • DECARIS,
  • PIRANTEL, HELMINTOX,
  • VERMOX, WORMIN,
  • NEMOSOL,
  • PIPERAZINE.

If we are dealing with ascariasis, DECARIS, VERMOX, or PIPERAZINE will do, but it is weaker.

If uninvited guests are pinworms, then VERMOKS, PIRANTEL will do a great job of them, and why not connect heavy artillery in the form of NEMOSOL here. PIPERASIN can be dispensed with, but it will have to be given for 5 days.

If in the family where pinworms are found, there is a baby of 6-12 months, then only one drug is suitable for him: PIRANTEL in suspension.

On tapeworms  (pork tapeworm, echinococcus, alveococcus, etc.) NEMOSOL and VERMOX are effective. The latter is weaker but less toxic.

And if flukes are parasites, then the main drug is BILTRICIDE.

But if some helminths are not indicated in the instructions, then remember that the three widest spectrum of action are possessed by three drugs: NEMOSOL, BILTRICIDE and VERMOX.

Pregnant women are strictly contraindicated:

Mebendazole (VERMOX), albendazole (NEMOSOL).

Strictly contraindicated in nursing:

Levamezole (decaris), mebendazole (vermox, vormin), pyrantel.

Complete sale for helminthiasis

And finally.

Charging for the mind

And finally, two mathematical problems.

Only to solve them, you will have to take instructions:

Task number one

The family lives: mom, dad, grandmother, son 6 years old and daughter 8 months.

A baby son (6 years old) came to his father and showed him a piece of paper from a kindergarten, where it was written in red ink that supposedly pinworms were found in your child, treat urgently!

Attention, question:

What kind / preparations and in what quantity will you recommend to this dad?

Task number two

The Paramonov family consists of a mother, a father, a son of 8 years and another son of 3 years. One morning, oh, horror, my mother found little white little worms in her youngest chair. Mom immediately, headlong, flew to you at the pharmacy.

Attention, question:

What do you offer her and how many packages?

And very, very finally :-)

Perhaps you are asked about pumpkin seeds and garlic enemas: they say that with helminthiasis they are very effective.

What will I tell you:

About pumpkin seeds : they do act on some worms (though history is silent about which ones). But for the result to be single dose  sunflower seeds should be 300 grams! And course - only God knows.

Although ... if you have them on sale, you can offer them in combination with an anthelmintic.

About the garlic enema.

Write down the recipe.

Take a head of garlic. Grind. Pour a glass of water and bring to a boil. Cool, strain, put into a syringe and inject rectally with MAME or PAPE, who was going to arrange such an execution for his bloodstream. :-)

Better yet, add the juice of one onion to the garlic and add the SAME.

It is possible that helminths are torn off from the juice of onions and become bedded by the smell of garlic, but this is unlikely to somehow affect their health and existence. But the rectal mucosa of the human baby will be seriously damaged.

On this sad note, let me conclude our conversation for today.

With love to you, Marina Kuznetsova

Earlier, the most common were drugs based on natural componentssuch as male fern, pumpkin seeds, garlic extract, etc. However, now manufacturers offer synthetic-based medicines that are highly effective and safe for humans.

The effect of anthelmintic drugs can be different. The intake of some leads to changes in carbohydrate metabolism in helminth cells. Other drugs destroy helminths, paralyzing the neuromuscular system, and a drug like Fenasal can simultaneously cause muscle paralysis and destroy integumentary tissues.

Anthelmintic drugs

Consider the most common and effective medicinesused to combat helminthiases.

Pyrantel

Nemozole

This tool is used in the treatment of almost all types of helminthiases, however, it has the greatest effectiveness against giardia.

Decaris

The drug is also a broad-spectrum anthelmintic drug, but its use is most often used in the treatment of ascariasis. Its dignity lies in the ability to improve immunity, because sometimes it is prescribed for such purposes. It can not be used for prevention, as it can only fight with adults.

Fenasal

The tool refers to low-hazard drugs, which, if the dosage is observed, do not have a toxic effect on the body. It is recommended for infection with tapeworm and wide ribbon.

Vermox (Mebendazole)

This drug is classified as a broad-spectrum drug. It is active in enterobiasis, ascariasis and many other types of helminthiases. Dosage is selected individually for each case. The drug is almost not absorbed into the blood, but can be deposited in the liver, causing a number of side effects. This can be nausea, headache, impaired liver function, allergic reactions.

Fed

The drug is able to destroy not only adult worms, but also eggs and worm larvae. It is used in the fight against roundworms, pinworms and whipworm. It can also be included in combination therapy, intestinal acne and other diseases.

Should people take anthelmintic drugs for prevention?

For prevention, you must follow the rules of personal hygiene, wash your hands after the street, going to the toilet, before a meal. The only thing you can use without fear for the body is such folk remedies as pumpkin seeds and garlic.
